Drawing Room (http://www.thedrawingroom.com.hk/)
My friend and I waited for 5 weeks to get a table at the Drawing Room (!). After trying so many over-rated new "renowned" highend restaurants these couple of years, I was a bit skeptical about the Drawing Room before tonight. 5 weeks of expectation is hard to beat...
Turns out I was pleasantly surprised. Other than the tables placed a bit too close to each other, ambience is luxurious homey. Service is attentive. The staff knew the dishes and wine well (expectation got higher already just by hearing them going thru the menu).
My first dish was quail and foie gras. Foie gras melted in my mouth, no surprise there. But the quail...is phenomenal (allow me to get a bit "British's got talent" here). A bit pink, very juicy and absolutely delicious. Second dish was homemade fettucine with pork. Al dente pasta with rich tomato sause. Then the smoke pigeon came... slow-cooked, tender, balanced. It is the highlight of my 4-course.
BTW, I stole a bite of the scampi pasta my friend ordered... I think it beats Da Domenico. But if you're a real scampi fans and can never have enough of that, you'd prefer Da Domenico.
In terms of "western" restaurant in HK, I love Robuchon. But considering the Drawing Room's 4 course meal costs around $800, I think it is becoming my new favourite. See you again soon Chef Roland :)
